WHAT'S NEW FROM JADAN GARDENS - MONSOON SEASON JULY 2017

As I began writing this report on a late afternoon on the 25th of July, the rain was falling torrentially after 2 rainy weeks and the talab had filled up by half a metre to date. In a village less than 70km from here – Dhola – in the Pali district – the inhabitants were being airlifted from their homes. It would appear that we have a situation similar to that of 2011 – flood crises.

LATEST NEWS FROM JADAN GARDENS - MID-SUMMER MAY 2017

From the 12 May, Vishwaguruji was here with us and so, despite the temperature being over 40 degrees Celsius every day and some very humid conditions, it was a very special month. He was pleased with the progress of the gardens and there was enough sabji (cooking vegetables) for his kitchen and somehow the heat became less of a focal point during his visit.

BEGINNING OF SUMMER: REACHING BOILING POINT IN JADAN ASHRAM GARDENS - APRIL 2017

Apart from 10 days with consecutive temperatures of 44-45 degrees celsius, we had a normal kind of April, except that there was an absence of late spring shower. And on the night of the 28th there was a display of thunder and lightning, and a lot of dust was blown around and through narrow cracks into rooms and basements – a specialty of this season.

JADAN GARDEN FEBRUARY 2017 - LATE WINTER AND EARLY SPRING: FALLING LEAVES AND DRY HEAT

This final month of winter to spring passed by with Vishwaguruji's arrival at the end of the month in mind. Many preparations were under way in the Shiv Bagh in terms of weeding and preparing the east to west channels in the centre part, into which we transplanted the marigold plants raised from seeds in the workshop garden.

JANUARY NEWS FROM JADAN ORGANIC GARDENS – MID WINTER IN THE SEMI ARID ZONE OF RAJASTHAN

This month we experienced some of the coolest temperatures felt in this part of Rajasthan for some years, and so it was good to have plenty of red beets to keep our blood red and warm! We also had the first rain for 5 months – on Indian Republic Day! – which came gently in the early morning and then fell torrentially by midday. There were even some hail stones!
