As I began writing this report on a late afternoon on the 25th of July, the rain was falling torrentially after 2 rainy weeks and the talab had filled up by half a metre to date. In a village less than 70km from here – Dhola – in the Pali district – the inhabitants were being airlifted from their homes. It would appear that we have a situation similar to that of 2011 – flood crises.

From the 12 May, Vishwaguruji was here with us and so, despite the temperature being over 40 degrees Celsius every day and some very humid conditions, it was a very special month. He was pleased with the progress of the gardens and there was enough sabji (cooking vegetables) for his kitchen and somehow the heat became less of a focal point during his visit.

Apart from 10 days with consecutive temperatures of 44-45 degrees celsius, we had a normal kind of April, except that there was an absence of late spring shower. And on the night of the 28th there was a display of thunder and lightning, and a lot of dust was blown around and through narrow cracks into rooms and basements – a specialty of this season.

I must first say what a beautiful group it was from late February until Holi, and many many thanks for all the excellent and skilled help received in the gardens, especially with the pruning of the golden hedge in the Shiv Bagh.

This final month of winter to spring passed by with Vishwaguruji's arrival at the end of the month in mind. Many preparations were under way in the Shiv Bagh in terms of weeding and preparing the east to west channels in the centre part, into which we transplanted the marigold plants raised from seeds in the workshop garden.

This month we experienced some of the coolest temperatures felt in this part of Rajasthan for some years, and so it was good to have plenty of red beets to keep our blood red and warm! We also had the first rain for 5 months – on Indian Republic Day! – which came gently in the early morning and then fell torrentially by midday. There were even some hail stones!

Hari Om to all on this last day of the year and Seasonal Greetings. There is a beautiful calm in the air these days in Jadan and the songs of new species of birds – some yellow and some blue – and the cry of eagles soaring over the Shiv Bagh.

his November, as always, was a dry month – no clouds to be seen except some haze for a few days and for most of the month Vishwaguruji was here with us, as well as some guests from Europe and Australia, so we had some garden help...

It really took a long time this month for the humidity to drop and it was still around 70% towards the end of the month, which made for a sticky feel during the days in spite of cooler mornings...

Yes indeed, the rain cut out after a 30 minute heavy shower at 5pm on the 1st of September, and since then it has been blue skies and not much wind, high humidity, and days anywhere up to 40 degrees celsius.

This year's monsoon was a phenomenon making Jadan Ashram a tropical paradise! During the Augusts of 2014 and 2015 we experienced droughts, so it was unbelievable and an unmitigated joy to get the kind of rainfall that only usual comes in our dreams!
